Heart and Vascular Institute

Heart and Vascular Institute

Welcome to the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute.

Providing Advanced Care Close to Home

Cardiovascular patients will find that choosing the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute will make doctors’ visits, hospitalizations and follow-up appointments easier and less stressful – important factors that physicians recognize as key to patients’ successful healing and recovery.

The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute is a multi-specialty practice dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality cardiac and vascular services. It brings together many of the nation’s best physicians in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiovascular services, practicing in state-of-the-art facilities.

Highly trained teams of specialists, nurses, physician assistants and allied health professionals work together to provide a seamless continuum of care across WMCHealth’s 10 hospitals on eight campuses. Whether it is preventive care at a cardiologist’s office nearby, diagnostic screenings at a community hospital, or more complex procedures at regional hospitals, patients will know they are getting the best, most comprehensive care.

The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute’s mission is to provide patients who live throughout the greater Hudson Valley region and southwestern Connecticut the highest level of care, close to home. Through WMCHealth, patients can receive care in their home communities, but also have access to the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and leading-edge treatments at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie and HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston.

“We have developed a regional strategy of care that can keep patients closer to home,” said Julio A. Panza, MD, Chief, Cardiology. “But unlike other models, we work with our member hospitals to devise initiatives that are developed jointly across the system and work as a partnership to benefit the patient.”

Through new technologies such as telemedicine, improved transport and electronic medical records, patients can receive the highest level of care without the stress of extended travel to large, urban hospital centers. And with the addition of a Heart Center in the new Ambulatory Care Pavilion, outpatients can receive advanced diagnostic testing as well as emergency angioplasty, device implants and other interventional procedures in state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs. Referring cardiologists and physicians know their patients will receive the very best in innovative and leading-edge care from the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute.

The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute is committed to providing Hudson Valley children and adults with the most advanced cardiovascular services.

The Institute centers on patient care, patient needs and patient respect. It provides access to preventive, foundational and intermediate care in local communities, and offers the most up-to-date, complex care at regional centers.

Cardiovascular medicine is a constantly evolving field. Innovation, the integration of multiple disciplines and regional collaboration are paramount in achieving the mission of providing the best possible medical care for a population as large as the Hudson Valley and its surrounding geography.

But that mission cannot be accomplished without the experience and expertise of qualified physicians, nurses and advanced practitioners who coordinate at both local and regional levels. Westchester Medical Center, WMCHealth’s flagship, is the region’s preeminent healthcare provider and only quaternary referral center. It is uniquely positioned to be the catalyst for regional care across the continuum of cardiovascular disease.

The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute is built upon these tenets: The highest quality medical care; a strong commitment to academic advancement that includes well-established training and research programs; and a visionary strategy to multidisciplinary integration.

The Institute’s record of top-flight patient care is the foundation that propels it ahead. It will continue to embrace emerging technology. It will keep facilities first-rate. And it will deliver on an unwavering commitment to growth and expansion into new areas, all to bring the finest, most experienced and comforting care.

We, the leaders of the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute, are committed to providing stateof- the-art, compassionate cardiovascular treatment and healing. Our exceptional team is close by, trustworthy and accessible to all, and hopes patients and physicians across the region share its vision.

Cardiovascular disease typically progresses from a stage with no symptoms, to early phases when it emerges, and finally to the disease’s advanced forms. Success in medicine is achieved when patients’ care and ongoing health prevent the disease or when the disease can be effectively managed and treated. Hence, a successful medical system is one that keeps patients away from the advanced stages of the disease, and is capable of addressing all levels of disease severity.

The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute has met the challenge of preventing and fighting disease progression with a multi-faceted strategy. Preventive care is provided at multiple physicians’ network practices across the Hudson Valley. Early stages of disease are treated at WMCHealth hospitals, with a focus on keeping patients close to home. When the disease has progressed to an advanced stage, patients are treated at the flagship Westchester Medical Center, which has earned a reputation for successfully treating the most complex cases.
